What I Wish I knew About Missions Before Going

My wife, Lara, and I thought we knew a lot about missions before we went to Cambodia. We had been journeying in missions for many years - worked in a cross-cultural clinic, had been on several short-term trips, attended conferences and pre-field trainings; we lived intentionally and missionally. Both of us knew that Cambodia would stretch our lives and our faith. What we did not realize was how much of that challenge originated from our own expectations of what missions would be like, our ideas of God and sense of self.

Objectives

Identify key ideas and assumptions about missions work that create stress and conflict.
Develop a clearer sense of God’s call on our lives.
Reflect on how people with different visions and methods for ministry can work together.
