Both long and short-term opportunities for providing healthcare professional education globally abound and have the benefit of increasing local capacity for patient care by those who speak the local language and are part of the culture. This workshop will give examples of opportunities in a variety of healthcare settings and discuss how they can provide the education global colleagues seek, while demonstrating the love and message of Christ. Medical, dental, nursing and allied health needs will be presented by panel members with real life experiences serving on healthcare professional education teams, along with practical steps on how to participate in these opportunities.
Speakers:
1) Bruce MacFadyen, MD
2) Shari Falkenheimer, MD
3) Miriam Chickering, BSN, CEO Nurses International
4) James D. Smith, MD
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1) Explain why healthcare professional education may be more beneficial than providing direct care
2) Discuss the types of healthcare professional educational opportunities that exist globally
3) Research opportunities in their field for providing healthcare professional education globally
