Dealing with Bribes, Theft, and Begging

In the streets they offer an outstretched limp hand and a pathetic pleading look. You feel compelled to give them something and don’t know what to do. A ministry co-worker asks for a loan of $200 to pay his children’s school fees. You go to the airport to clear from customs boxes of donated medical equipment. You have submitted all the necessary paperwork when the desk officer asks for an additional $1000 to “expedite” releasing the goods. After hiring a woman to help clean your house, you discover some of your jewelry and cash is missing. In this session we will examine some cultural beliefs and biblical principles regarding money and relationships and provide practical ways to prepare for the stress of unexpected beggars, people asking for loans, differentiating between bribery and extortion, and reducing your vulnerability to theft.
Objectives
Learn biblical principles and some cultural beliefs about money, possessions and relationships.
Learn practical ways to prepare for beggars and decide when to loan money.
Develop a better understanding of the difference between bribery and extortion and their impact on ministry.
Learn practical ways to prevent theft and cope with stealing.
