Nurses are the cornerstone of every healthcare system. They deliver 90% of all healthcare services worldwide. Nurses in low resource countries desire better training to ensure they have the skills, competencies, clinical knowledge and judgement to handle the complexity of health problems they face. Educating and empowering nurses to be leaders of change will help create better health outcomes for their countries. In this session, the speaker will share first-hand experiences from collaborating with global partners in Haiti and Malawi to hold “Building Capacity for Nursing Leadership” conferences in those countries.

Objectives

1. Explain the need for leadership education and empowerment for nurses in low resource countries.
2. Describe the steps taken to develop the framework for the nursing leadership conferences in Haiti and Malawi.
3. Discuss 10 truths about leadership.
